My name is Orfa Maria Sanchez, and as the visionary behind Guama Fashion Designs, my story began in the vibrant city of Santiago de Cali, Colombia. My journey is a testament to my resilience, creativity, and passion. Labeled as a brilliant artisan designer, I created Guama Fashion Designs to specialize in exquisite hand-crocheted and embroidered beachwear and accessories.

 

I was driven by an unwavering determination to support my family, so my embroidery skills were born out of necessity. What started as a simple means to make ends meet quickly blossomed into a superior craft. Through countless hours of dedication and hard work, I honed my craftsmanship while subcontracting as an embroiderer for the retail giant, Studio F.  Over time, my creative skills transcended mere proficiency, evolving into beautiful artistry that sets my beachwear fashions apart.

 

I was mentored by the Indigenous and older women of Colombia who still practice the craft, and I realized that intricate embroidery and crocheting skills were quickly becoming a lost art as young brands leaned into technology with their designs. It was crucial to me that I not lose the art, and this is why I have embraced embroidery as an integral part of my designs. I know staying connected to my heritage and traditions creates opportunities for future generations.

But more important is my passion for designing. I love creating designs because it brings me peace. When I’m at that level of imagination and concentration, nothing around me distracts me. This personal mantra encapsulates the deep connection I feel to my work and is the trademark of Guama Fashion Designs. Each piece mirrors my desire to bring beauty and tranquility into not only my life but the lives of my customers.
